I dont think how the world was created is even relevant. Even if it was God who created it, is that gonna change anything? I dont understand why people make such a big deal about what created what. It like has no effect on my life. Well, if you can prove that God created the Eath, then it would prove that God exists, and we can end that whole debate. Personally, I would like to know for sure if God exists or not. I mean, if someone found absolute, definitive proof that God exists, I would continue being a releatively good person. If someone had the same level of proof to the contrary, then I'd raise hell, knowing that I wouldn't be punished in the afterlife. As it is, I do believe that we are rewarded for our actions on Earth, so I try to be as morally decent as I can be.

I concur with Char on his logic.
Besides, what do you think oyur purpose is if there was no creator? Just curious, I'm never seem to grasp this concept.
PS. Char, did you pick up that line from El Dorado?

I can't remember who first said "To err is human." I think it was Socrates or somebody like that...
I do know that I was the first to add the "yo" into the line.

I find Christianity jokes very funny - But I do respect peoples beliefs. On TV last night, there was a joke...it was regarding gambling.
"Christians came out last night and took a stand on the recent gambling debate, saying "the participants are given false hope with an unrealistic goal"....As opposed to shining man, who lives in the clouds."
I fully take on all comments on board, and I do find hearing your insights is interesting Conch. Keep it coming.

The whole point is that if everyone was evil and went wild, the human race would kill itself off. Cos if you go kill a random for no reason then his brother is gonna want vengange and come and kill you. In some respects religion is a safeguard, to stop everyone killing each other. The thing that bugs me is why hasnt God revealed himself more? If he actually gave me a sign perhaps I would be good and give praise to him more? I know people claim to have visits by God and stuff, but why doesnt God make himself known to the whole world? Maybe God has got sick of praise and doesnt want people to acknowledge he created them. Maybe God has got sick of us, like a child gets sick of an old pet. Maybe God has created a second universe, and pays more attention to that. Maybe God is dead.

You do bring up a very good point about vengence. However, I think a sense of morality would still exist even if there was no religion. I mean, ReZ, you personally don't believe God exists, but don't go around killing random peope, do you? I'm going to assume that the answer is no, and that the reason is that you know it's wrong. People know that if they if there is absolutely no morality, then the world would be in anarchy, and that doesn't benefit anyone. They know that they only way for them to remain safe is to treat everyone else the way they want to be treated.
As for the lack of God's presence... Okay, you know how staring at an ant colony is entertaining for about an hour, then you get bored and move on. Maybe God has gotten bored with his creations, and moved on...

That is why faith is so essential to religion Chair. See, if he was to give a sign, people would be the same. Think about, if you've heard the story, the rich man and Lazurus. when the rich man, in torment, asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his family and warn them, he--Abraham--said it would not help. They had the word to follow, what more sign is there than his own words (printed)

Well until God gives me a sign I'm not gonna abide by rules put in place by churches which I think are wrong.

LOL I laughed when you said "Maybe God is dead".
Also, I don;t know what proof could possibly expalin God. If someone ran into buckingham palace screaming, claiming to be a messenger of god, we'd put him/her into a mental hospital, calling her crazy.
If a video was found of "God", no one would believe it. We'd look for a flaw or a loop-hole, which we would find somehow. "Oh, its somoen dressed up", "CGI" etc. In our day and age, where machines can make humans appear to lift continents with their bare hands, and cause simulations of the worst imaginable natural disasters strike the earth, whose goign to believe ANOTHER healer/messenger from god. Especially if he's as modest and calm as Jesus is descirbed as being.
I kindof which we didnt have the capacity to imagine how the earth came to be, and of death.
@ Connie. I don;t know what the reason for existance is. My worst fear is death. And the reason i'm scared is becuase in my heart I know that theres nothing there. I can't imagine nothing.
All I know is that while we're here, we should have fun, and do what we enjoy. Why waste the short time we have on earth fighting over stupid disagreements? (Which are often caused by religion. )
I can't stand it.

Well there is no evidence to say God is immortal.
Just because he created us doesnt mean he is omni powerful and immortal.
(NB. Everything said here is assuming there is a God)

I think there's a verse...
"God is all there was, there is, and all there ever will be."
Something along those lines.

Who wrote that?
Who wrote the Bible?
For all I know the old testament could be a novel written by a man living in Jerusalem in 1000BC.
I find it kinda hard basing my judgement on a book.

I think the term "God is dead" is more metaphorical than literal. I think that when people say it, they are saying that God is no longer giving the attention than He originally did. I don't think that it's a question of mortality.
