I just realized that I have a paper due on Monday where I have to interview someone from another country about marriage and dating. Well, I really don't have any access to people who live in another country other than here, so I was hoping you guys could help me out. I have to write one to two page report on the three things that I found the most interesting, so I would appreciate as much detail was possible.
Here's some sample questions:
Do your parents have a lot of influence on who you date or marry? Are marriages arranged?
How have dating practices changed in your country over the century?
What are the dating and courting rituals like in your country?
How does your society react to premarital sex and/or cohabitation?
What is the birth rate for unmarried couples? Unwanted pregnancies? Is abortion allowed?
Describe a typical wedding ceremony.
What is the average age for those who get married?
In your country, what is the average number of children per family?
What are the major problems of families in your country?
Is birth control practiced? If so, how?
At what age do most people lose their virginity? Before or after marriage? Do men “mess around” before marriage?
What are the laws and norms surrounding divorce in your country?
If you all could gave some details on two or three questions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everybody!

Here's some sample questions:
Do your parents have a lot of influence on who you date or marry? Are marriages arranged?
Marriages are not aranged, and no, my parents dont/wouldn't have much influence.
How have dating practices changed in your country over the century?
I'm not sure. they're definitely much looser now, and span cultures and "classes".
What are the dating and courting rituals like in your country?
Probably the same as yours.
How does your society react to premarital sex and/or cohabitation?
It doesnt. Only a few religions/religious sects actually care nowadays where I live.
What is the birth rate for unmarried couples? Unwanted pregnancies? Is abortion allowed?
Unsure, but probably higher than it used to be 50 years ago. Abortion is allowed, and again isnt as touchy a subject as it is in the US.
Describe a typical wedding ceremony.
Depends on religion, but usually a church, bride, groom etc. The "typical" ceremony, then a reception where various friends and family make speechhes, before the bride and groom go on honeymoon.
What is the average age for those who get married?
Unsure. I think the age is rising, and also more couples are happy cohabiting, rather than commit themselves.
In your country, what is the average number of children per family?
Unsure. Would estimate 1-2.
What are the major problems of families in your country?
I'm not sure what this question is actually asking. Some large families are poor, and may not get the best start in life.
Is birth control practiced? If so, how?
Yes, because of the risk of pregnancies/STD's.
At what age do most people lose their virginity? Before or after marriage? Do men “mess around” before marriage?
Late teens, I think. Most people have premarital sex.
What are the laws and norms surrounding divorce in your country?
No one cares. You just do it. theres no stigma accociated with it.
If you all could gave some details on two or three questions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everybody![/quote]

Bagsy I need to answer too.
Do your parents have a lot of influence on who you date or marry? Are marriages arranged?
I think it would be a story for the papers if someone's parents forced them to marry someone here. And I would be pretty surprised if my parents said I absolutely couldn't date someone (though it would be different if they were a crazy drug addict or something).
How have dating practices changed in your country over the century?
Its way more loose now. 100 years ago you only spoke to poeple in your own class, and it was always the man that asked the lady out. Nowadays anything goes.
What are the dating and courting rituals like in your country?
Like in any movie you watch, you get talking to someone, then it goes from there.
How does your society react to premarital sex and/or cohabitation?
Its basically expected. The government is trying to stop premartial sex, its trying to get everyone to use contraception. I wouldn't believe someone if they told me they were marrying someone they had never had sex with. Cohabitation is becoming increasingly common aswell.
Lol I got bored after that, so I only answered those ones.
