If some actor swearing at his kid in frustration were the worst thing that happened last week we'd live in a much, much better world.

Yeah exactly.
What about the like 20 people killed in a car bomb in Iraq? Their killer is way more of a "douche".

As far as I understand, you can't get sued for calling someone a fuck or a douche, or something like that. Penn and Teller actually teach us this loophole, it's why they don't call people "Cheats" or "Scammers", because that could be construed as libel/slander. They just call whatever is happening as "Bullshit" which doesn't actually make a claim as to what a person is doing wrong. Same goes here, callign someone a douche isn't slander. Calling someone a child abuser does. Though calling what is heard on the tape child abuse is not libelous, since it's describing something clearly in evidence. The truth isn't libel.
It's fucking complicated.

I just added Kim Bassinger to share the Douche of the Week spot. Bad parenting is bad parenting. Now that I can get behind. .

I don't know about this one.
We only know what the news wants us to know about what actually occurred. And we all know the news would never lie to draw more ratings and sell more papers.
What happened in the Baldwin/Bassinger household only they truly know.
How do we know that the 11-12 year old daughter didn't just get done swearing worse than a drunken sailor at her dad?? We don't.
I still remember back when I was 11 or 12. One day while catching football with my dad I dropped the f-word when I flubbed a pass back to my dad. From 20+ yards away my dad threw the most perfect spiral as fast as he could and beaned me right in the nose when I wasn't looking. He never said anything after that and I knew I got off easy.
Now, in today's politically correct and liberal world I could have had my dad arrested for child abuse. Which is truly sad because I know full well I got what I deserved. Hell! I got off easy on that one.

It's fucking complicated. It's because terms such as "jackass" and "douche" are objective. If you called the same person a "liar" or "child abuser", then it could be libel, because it's something they prove without a doubt whether it's true or not. I saw that episode, too... I was just watchin' it the other day. Yay for DVD.
