But Hush, when your parents split were you a complete jackass to people? And you've gotta remember this guy is 19. He should be old enough to A) Deal with it maturely B) Not bring it to us in the form of instigation. My parents split, too. But I think that the key difference is hostility. I can't speak for Hush, but I know that I hardly saw my parents fight, and when they did, they did so tactfully. In MusicMan's case, he has see all of the anger that exists between his parents. There's a huge difference there, especially if he has had to watch that kind of thing all of his life. That kind of volatility has definite negative influence in kids of any age. Child Psychology course FTW!!! Pffft, I saw my parents argue a lot...and I turned out fine? Right? Right?

There's a ton of difference between seeing parents arguing and seeing what MusicMan is describing. All married couples argue. But what he's describing seems a little more than your basic "who's going to cook dinner" type squabbles that most children see.
But, hey, I really don't know that guy, so I could be way off base.

I saw my parents physically fight, when I was like 5. I think if I can handle that when I was five, I think MM can handle whats going on now, especially at 19.

Well, different people handle situations differently. I was reading about in my Psych textbook last night. Basically, if a child has a violate home situation, they seek comfort elsewhere. If they find a healthy environment, which could be in the form of school, or possible extended family, then they can become well-adjusted adults. However, if they don't find solace in any environment, then they could have problems. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, and vice versa.

Its pretty clear that this guy comes from a family of ass spelunkers.
