MISSION 1: GENESIS (Training)

Later, as the group strides down a gray hallway, Alan asks, “Why is this place underground?”
“Security.” Joseph smiles. “Now, I have one final room to show you.”
As Joseph leads them towards a blue door at the end of the hall, Avril turns to Marisa. “Can you believe the private jet and the briefing room? How nice are they?”
“This whole facility is very elaborate.” Marisa replies.
The group reaches the door, and Joseph slides a keycard into the slot. The door buzzes in recognition and swings open. The new recruits step through the door.
A massive arena awaits them. Patches of grass and dirt paths surround a pond in the middle of it.
“Welcome to our training facility.” Joseph smiles as he sees the eight people gape in shock. “Rather large yes, but it’s to simulate a combat field.”
The eight onlookers watch as some people are already inside, battling away.
“You’re not the only recruits I have. Here are some of our more senior members. “Quality over quantity”, I always say, but sometimes wars are won on the basis of attrition. Right, Mr. McMillan?”
“Uh, yeah.” Argyle watches the combatants in the arena.
“Mr. Quaker!” Joseph shouts above the noise of fighting. “We have some new recruits.”
“….and you want us to see what they’re made of?” The giant man replies.
“Precisely.” Joseph turns to the new team of eight. “Have fun.”

Story:
Solomon was still somewhat surprised at meeting these other recruits of the Nightwatchmen. There were more people than he had imagined with great power. Brushing some lint off his Jay-Z t-shirt, he turned to the team.
"Alright guys, it's obvious that those guys over there have been working together for a long time, and we hardly know one another. Let's get through this. Be careful. Elijah, can you help someone get closer to the battle? Otherwise, you're going to all have to get there yourselves."
Solomon turned to the young woman beside him. She was very pretty. He sucked in some air and spoke up.
"Marisa, would you like a lift? Let's go to a more strategic position."
She merely nodded, but said nothing.
Solomon moved towards her and held her gently around the waist.
"Hold on."
Within moments, he and her were airborne. Spotting a bush, Solomon glided towards it and set Marisa down gently beside him.
Now, it was time for the rest of the team to get moving. Solomon waited. Patience was a virtue.

Story
Avril was starting to worry that something bad would happen if she stayed to long around these new companions. She ran along the path and vaulted into a bush, to survey the situation. The first rule of hapkido was to assess and gain control. She hoped her training would serve her well in this battle.

[Parallax]

STORY:
Argyle watches as the rest of his so-called team flies into position. After years of military training and "special skills" training, Argyle has a decent idea of what to do. He closes his eyes, drawing all of the loose mineral matter from the room, gaining size and mass as his human form is lost to that of a 20 foot sand-storm with a vaguely human form. Argyle's form to shifts and blows into position behind a small structure to one side of the body of water, grabbing a gumball machine lying on the field on the way.

Alan watched as half of his new teammates ran off towards the shack by the lake, as one of the others, a young man, seemed to be encouraging and leading them. Well, guess I'll see what I can do for this bunch... Alan thought to himself, motioning to the remaining bunch to follow him around to the other side of the lake.

Hermetic eyed the raw recruits. They seemed to relish the defensive positioning. That would soon change. She nodded at Abolisher.

Abolisher nodded and did as requested.
Meanwhile, Zip hopped and bounced around. "When can we show these newbies what it's all about?"
Occult frowned. "Wait a minute. Let's see what they're up to. Then we'll show them what it means to be a Nightwatchman!"

Story:
Solomon watched as two of the senior Nightwatchmen moved up. They seemed to be holding back. Why? They obviously had more combat experience.
"Be careful, team." Solomon announced. "I think they're trying to take advantage of our newcomer status."
Solomon noted that his team had a spread-out, yet strongly fortified positioning.
"Good job. Now, let's show them what we've got, but let's be careful in the process."
Solomon, finished analyzing the situation, turned his thoughts back to the past few weeks. He vividly recalled the situation only a month ago.....

Solomon stood in line in the school cafeteria. His thoughts drifted to his schoolwork. "How will I get that History project done?"
Suddenly, Jake Abner and his crew got entered through the far doors. They were laughing as they moved towards the back of the line. Suddenly, Solomon watched as Jake got a gleam in his eye. Jake nudged his closest buddy and pointed at Chloe Vickers. Solomon furrowed his brow as he watched what would happen.
Jake and his boys sidled up to Chloe. She was attractive, but was known as a serious, thoughtful girl. Jake slid an arm around Chloe.
He smiled at her wolfishly. "C'mon girl, when are you gonna go out with me and the boys?"
"Jake, I'm busy, okay?" Chloe replied shortly, trying to push Jake's arm off of her.
"Baby, don't be like that." Jake pulled her closer. Chloe squirmed and finally raised her voice. "Jake, get off me!"
Jake and his boys laughed, then Jake stared at Chloe devilshly. He reached his arm towards her and grabbed her breast.
"Jake, get off!" Chloe demanded, trying to get away. Jake and his boys laughed.
"Dude, get away, like the lady said." Solomon left the line and stepped up to the scene.
Jake sneered. "Well, if it isn't ol' Jesus-boy! Ya gonna tell me more 'Thou shalt not' bullshit?"
"Jake. Just let go of her. She asked you already."
Jake's face turned into a menacing glare. "Yeah, Jesus-boy? What are you gonna do about it?"
Suddenly, he charged towards Solomon, punching him viciously in the face. Onlookers gasped, but after a quick glare from Jake, everyone pretended to turn away.
"Turn the other cheek, Solomon. You ain't got a bruise there, but I'll fix that." Jake mocked.
Solomon lay on the floor. He winced, and touched his cheek. It was beginning to bruise. His head was spinning.
Jake shook his head, and turned back to Chloe. "Now, where were we?" He asked, grabbing her on the ass.
"Unhand me, you monster!" Chloe snarled.
Jake shook his head mockingly, then he and his boys started dragging Chloe towards the exit. "C'mon baby. Let's cut out."
"NOO!!! OFF!!!!" Chloe shouted.
Jake reached the door and turned to face the crowd of students. "All of you shut up, else you're dead."
Solomon continued to lie on the floor. He heard the screams of Chloe, her pleas for help...and something snapped.
He suddenly leaped to his feet. Turning, he shook off his wooziness. "Jake, one more time. UNHAND HER."
Jake grinned. "You don't give up, do you?" Without a further word, he flipped a blade from his pocket and whipped it towards Solomon's face.
Solomon watched it get closer and closer to his face. Suddenly, he flung his arms out instinctually. "NO!"
A blast of light emerged from his hands knocking the knife to the ground. It continued on its path until it struck a surprised-looking Jake in the chest. He went flying into the door and lay unconscious. His boys looked at one another and ran.
Solomon stared at his hands. Looking up, he noticed everyone staring at him in disbelief.
He turned and ran out the doors.....

A month later and he discovered he could fly too. Soaring around the skies had been exhilirating and a good escape. As well, he seemed to be able to cure people to a degree as well. Both these powers had come in handy in his life recently.
But now, they were to be used in combat. Solomon couldn't imagine what real fighting would be like.
